Gokarna to Mangalore

Route which we followed?

Thane->Gokarna ->Murdeshwar->Udupi->Mangalore->Pune

How to reach?

There are many ways to reach north karnataka but we have preferred Train journey .

We took train from Thane to Gokarna ,called matsyaganda which took us Gokarna at 4am.( Official it’s 3.15am)

Inside city you can get bikes on rent Rent varies based on bike and if it’s weekday/ weekend.

1st Day -Gokarna

We have covered all below places in one day and in the same sequence:

  1. Mahabaleshwar Temple
  2. Gokarna Beach
  3. Yana caves
  4. Vibhuti waterfall
  5. Paradise beach( you can skip this)
  6. Om beach
  7. Kundle beach

At 6 am ,we reached Mahabaleshwar Themple which was unique and holding very nice story /history behind temple.

Since it was weekday and very early morning ,we got darshan quickly.

On walking distance from temple we have Gokarna beach .

After spending some time on beach, we had a nice breakfast on Gokarna beach resto.

We got address from locals for renting bike and then we started towards Yana caves which was one of the best decision to visit though it’s bit long route 48km and then near by we have Vibhuti waterfall. I would definitely recommend these 2 places as must visit.

Vibhuti waterfall

Half day was gone ,on the way back we had our lunch. Please note it would be great if you will carry water and few eating stuff with you as these places are not much crowded.

                   Vibhuti Waterfall

Next place was paradise beach which was very calm but you can skip this beach as I find it’s worth to spend more time on Om and kundle beach. You can enjoy beautiful view of sunset from Om/ kundle beach

On the way to Om beach

We have ended our day by revisiting Mahabaleshwar temple.

In Gokarna Our stay was at ‘GREEN LAND’ 1200/night and which was quite pleasant and near to Mahabaleshwar temple/ Gokarna beach/ bus stand.

2nd Day – Murdeshwar

From Gokarna to murdeshwar ,you can get direct buses till 8.45am after that there is no direct bus (2.5 hrs) and you need to reach murdeshwar via kumtha.

we had took 11am bus to kumtha (1hr) and from there we took murdeshwar bus(1.5hr).

if you would like to enjoy this view then do visit murdeshwar .

After enjoying this beautiful view , we headed towards Udupi via bus (2 hrs) . we had pleasant stay at ‘Mathura comforts’ which was near krishna temple of Udupi.

There you can find rooms from Krishna temple authorities provided it’s not pick time.

 3rd Day – Udupi

First thing we did in Udupi was to hire Rented Bikes which was again depending upon bike and Weekend/weekdays. we found ‘RR Bros’ was providing bikes on cheap rate than any other  and then day started with
below places in given sequence :
  • St Mary’s Island
  • Kodi Bengre
  • Hanging Bridge
  • Malpe Beach
  • Kapu Beach LightHouse
  • Krisha Temple
St Mary’s Island – Must visit place. Here Vasco De Gama set his first Foot and given this name , the land which is geographically flooded ,very beautiful and  rock monoliths, white sand .
300/person is the charge via boat. You have helicopter option as well.
Boat ,which places you to the destination!

  St Mary’s Island

And then ofcourse beautiful beach, Enjoy watching video.
But swimming strictly prohibited here.
You will get water /food on this island but with double rate 🙂 .
After spending a fulfilled time ,we have started  towards Hanging bridge.

Hanging Bridge – Something different to such place but the way to reach Hanging bridge was very beautiful.

Kodi  Bengre – Here will see a nature’s magic. One side of road is beach and another side of road is backwater. We have Enjoyed here bike ride on the middle Road . On the road side even you will see peacocks .Here is the top view of the place .

Malpe Beach –
Here I find, this place is much commercialized .we have many water sports , street food, restaurants around this beach. we enjoyed here Tender Coconut shake and food on the beach shore. we were almost done with the day and we started journey towards Kapu Beach LightHouse.

Kapu Beach LightHouse – You can enjoy Kapu Beach Top view for that you need to do little exercise of climbing stair case :).
and then there is a  Top view.
They don’t allow to go lighthouse after 6PM so plan accordingly .
Recommended to visit this place between 5PM-6PM.
At the end we started towards Krishna temple because Morning was like 3/4 hrs queue and we were not willing to waste time in queue.

Krishna Temple –
Either you keep this option at early morning if it’s weekend or visit this in the night to avoid long queue which takes 2/3 hrs for Darshan . Fortunately , we got Darshan quickly at 8 PM when krishna Palkhi was out and to be part of palkhi walk is unique experience.
Then enjoyed Mahaprasad at Krishna temple and ended our day .

4th day – Manglore

Next day we catched early morning train to Manglore(Mangaluru) from Udupi , One can have bus .

Basically mangalore is proper city and you can do shopping , visit temples there like manjunatha temple, Dharamstala Karnataka.  we had to attended friends marriage so we preferred to keep day simple . We enjoyed very authentic food served in banana leaves. If you never tried and get chance , do try it.

way back to home?

Now Time to go back home .You can get flight ,bus ,train to back home.we had train booking from Mangalore to Pune  and we ended here a small elegant family trip .
