The whole Ladakh region is blessed with fabulous natural beauty, mountain ranges, roads, valleys, monasteries, lake and many more. As you read ahead, you will see 16 unforgettable days, evergreen memories of Leh Ladakh Trip!

Route Followed?

Pune-Chandigarh-Manali (2 nights)-Rohtang Pass-Jispa(1 night)-Sarchu (1 night) -Leh Ladakh(6 nights)-Srinagar(2 nights)-Pune.

Day 1 -Pune-Chandigarh-Manali

Noon of 16th June 2017, we boarded 2 pm flight to Chandigarh from Pune, reached by 4.30pm to Chandigarh.

From the airport, we had SVU to Manali, 305 km. We had lunch at one of the dhaba and then continued towards Manali. We reached late night to Manali.

2nd Day we have done local site seeing in Manali, below is the list of places. we felt there was no need for a taxi for this as most of them were within 5km vicinity and the roads are also narrow so you can avoid traffic. You can try their traditional dresses near the Manalsu river or near Hidimba Temple. This is the Only place where you will find Temple of ‘Ghatotkach/Hidimba’s Temple who were by birth Devil ‘Rakshas‘ but by Karma, they merited Temple as per ‘Mahabharata’ history.

The stay was to acclimatize to high altitude climate. we had overnight at Manali hotel.

3rd Day – Manali -Rohtang- Jispa (138 KM)

After breakfast we headed towards Jispa, we crossed Rohtang Pass which is worlds 2nd Highest Motorable Road, KeyLong & Jispa. Amazing Roads and breathtaking beauty! You cannot capture such beauty in your camera, It just fulfills your soul.

Day 4 : After breakfast, Our cars were ready to move to Sarchu which is around 80-100Km , max 3/4 hrs drive. We stopped in between to click pictures had Maggie. At ~4 PM we reached to the camping points, we were having an overnight stay.

Not to mention again Amazing views. This place was wow but there were no trees so people faced issues with high altitude sickness, heavy breathing, Many people struggled to sleep at night. This is not the place for the weak heart, You need to put some effort to be fit before planning this trip to stay and travel for such long days happily.

Day 5: Next morning after breakfast our journey started for Leh, with same ‘Josh’. You can reach directly to Leh via flight,car etc. In this route ,We crossed Nakeela & lachalunga pass( 16,617 ft), Had lunch in between near Pang & drove Further towards Leh, we passed Skyangchu Thang and Tanglang-La (17,585 ft).

Finally, we reached Leh by evening and just chilled out for the day.

Day 6: In the morning we switched to another place quickly ‘Green villa guest house’ homestay on demand, amazing hospitality, food. After breakfast, we explored Leh Market, restaurants, shopping. You have option to visit nearby places like

  • Royal Museum at stok palace
  • Thiksey Monastery
  • Shey palace
  • Magnetic hills
  • Indus Zanskar river Sangam
  • Stupa

below clicks of Indus Zanskar river Sangam & Magnetic hills, we took it on the way to our further journey. There is a mysterious say on Magnetic hills, If you turned off the engine and let your vehicle stand in neutral, it will slowly start moving and can go up to a speed of 20 kilometers per hour on its own.

Day 7 -Leh – Pangong

Post breakfast ,around 8 AM ,we were on our journey to Pangong Lake, placed at an 4400m. You will have to cross Changla Pass,17500ft. The route via Durbuk and Tangtse villages in the changthang region of Ladakh. Here we got heavy snow fall. This point you can have snacks, We had maggie, tea and then left for further journey.

The whole journey was with beautiful views, no words and I don’t know how I can communicate to you with just a few clicks! The first view of Pangong was just rising excitement to reach to the destination. One of the Bollywood movie 3 Idiots’s epic scene shooting done on this Pangong lake.

We stayed overnight to the luxuries camp near pangong lake, It was very cold due to heavy rain.

Day 8 – Pangong to Nubra valley

Next day morning after breakfast and enjoying morning view , our bikes and cars were ready for Nubra Valley via .diskit monastery, The Road was through village of diskit and hunder.

Next was Nubra valley, road-trip to this region was a beautiful one. As we reached valley, we set our camps to the assigned location. Nubra Valley is on high altitude cold desert, below are few clicks. Each turn of this road was just eye capturing.

Later on, we have visited the silver sand dunes near hunder village. You will be able to do camel safari around the place.

Day 9-After breakfast, we started our journey back to Leh via khardungla pass which is world’s highest motorable pass at an altitude of 18360ft..

Day 10 – Leh sightseeing

On this day we visited tourist places – ‘Rancho’s school’, Hemis Monastery, Shey Palace, Shopping, etc.

Day 11- Leh To Hanle and eventually lead to something different.

Hanle is in changthang region of Ladakh and it’s one of the beautiful, enchanting, calm and soul loosing place so we were all excited. For this place one needs special permission to cross border and all. This place has few monastery, worlds highest observatory. There is a but we didn’t reach in Hanle after whole day driving , we got to know our driver forgot permission letters so army didn’t allow us to go ahead. It was almost 6 pm (254 km) and roads were dangerous so we couldn’t drive back or any other palaces. The only solution was to stay there, we couldn’t find any guest houses nearby. On that way, one army guy was doing Jogging, we asked him about nearby guest houses and there was nothing. He offered us to stay at army guesthouse. The stay was a unique experience. we had a great dinner, late night chat, Army stories. Next morning they gave us a ride on Battle Tank also called ‘Rungada’. It was tough to sit inside the Battle Tank, just hats off to the Army.

Day 12 – Korzok

After spending little time in army area we travelled to Korzok. It’s located in Leh tehsil, In Rupshu region. It’s one of the highest town in the world. The altitude is~ 15075ft.

Here we visited the shore of Tso Moriri Lake and visited Drukpa Buddhist Korzok Monastery . The stay was not that good hence it was more memorable.

Day 13– Korzok to Leh (211 km) and took rest for the day at homestay.

Day 14 – Leh to kargil

Today our journey started back, via Kargil. Kargil is a city in the Kargil district of Ladakh region, in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It’s the 2nd largest town in Ladakh after Leh. It’s located 60km and 204km from Drass and Srinagar to the west respectively.

Day 15 – Kargil to Srinagar

Early morning after breakfast we drove to Srinagar . we reached Srinagar ~2pm.

What will you eat?

Throughout the road trip, you will get Maggie, Tupka, eggs(some places), Rajma Rice, etc. Homestay/Hotels will serve you proper food. In Leh, Srinagar cities you will find all kind of restaurants. On Road Trip, always carry some snacks/fast food.
